Democrats and Republicans on Education

Education is one of the leading topics of discussion among the Democrats and Republicans. Republicans believe that parents have the right to determine the values with which their children will be raised and to have the widest possible choice among public, private and religious schools and that competition will improve public education. Republicans promote school choice decisions that give parents more control over their children’s education. Also, they defend the option for home schooling and call for a careful enforcement of laws designed to protect family rights and privacy in education.
Democrats on the other hand believe that the federal government has the right to determine the values which will be taught in public schools. Also that the parents choice of schools must be limited to avoid exposing public schools to competitive forces which would encourage reform.
In September, President Obama announced that his administration would provide relief from the No Child Left Behind Act. The new flexibility will help states move forward with education reforms. These reforms are based on rigorous college standards, state developed accountability systems that reward progress, and education evaluation systems that support increase student achievement.
In my opinion both the Democrat and Republican party have valuable points of views and likeable suggestions. Although government should support the education system nationally with funding and suggestive opinions I'm a greater supporter of states being able to reform and handle their own education systems. Of course the federal government should have a say in the decision progress, but not to be able to control every detail of a reform or establishment.
