Gay Rights

By definition gay rights are: equal civil and social rights for homosexuals compared with heterosexuals.
Homosexuals have never been and still are not treated as equals in schools, workplaces, in terms of marriage, and until recently, in the military. These inequalities are driven by both religious and social beliefs, laws and stereotypes.
This issue is of importance because our own Declaration of Independence states that "all men are created equal" yet in the the year of 2011 we have still not achieved this.

This is an emotional issue that drives political participation from both sides. For the cause we have: homosexuals and social liberals. And those against the cause are religious conservatives and social conservatives.

Here are the mission statement to one group FOR gay rights and one AGAINST it:

(For) GayPASG: Their mission statement claims: "Action in support of or to defeat legislation,To endorse candidates who support basic civil and human rights for all citizens,To build bridges to established organizations working for basic human rights issues,And to establish and sponsor a standing Religious Concerns Committee to work with supportive religious group to counter the efforts of the Radical Religious Right."

other groups include: NCLRights, GSA, and Gay Liberation Front

(Against) Family Research Council: "Family Research Council champions marriage and family as the foundation of civilization, the seedbed of virtue, and the wellspring of society." Properly understood, "families" are formed only by ties of blood, marriage, or adoption, and "marriage" is a union of one man and one woman."

other groups include: West Boro Baptist Church, National Organization for Marriage, and Focus on the Family.

This can be found on the Democrats website:
"Democrats stand with the LGBT community in the fight to ensure that all Americans benefit from the civil rights that each of us deserves—because the fight for equality affects us all. Since President Obama took office, we have made tremendous progress: strengthening hate-crimes legislation named for Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. and aggressively supporting and initiating the repeal of "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell," among many others. These milestones are significant and historic, but our work is far from complete."

While there was no Information on GOP website BUT, you should take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iexoUIwrtgU

I, myself, am appalled by what Michelle Bachmann had to say. I for one am very closely connected to the gay rights cause. The repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is a step in the right direction.... And no, we aren't going to start having sex with ducks if and when gay marriage is legalized.
