The turmoil of 9/11 has cast a recent eye over foreign policy in the Middle East, both past and present. Peace facilitated by the US in the late 70's and early 80's is now in a situation of great tension. Multiple allegations between Israel, Egypt, and Palestinians threaten more violence in the region. Much of this relates to Palenstines call for statehood recognition. The US is now attempting to heal the wounds between its allies, to prevent any further progression towards violence. Some people may see this as intrusive, while others agree that it follows logic for the US to protect its interests. By doing this, we are also proctecting ourselves, and trying to promote peace. Israeli leaders continue to renounce the US suggestion of Palestinian statehood, which has certainly caused some tension between the US and Israel.
