Barack Obama hates hedgehogs?

Tea Partier and Senate candidate Joe Miller was on Fox News on Monday, and in his interview with Chris Wallace he displayed some rather radical opinions on Social Security and Unemployment Benefits, but seemed unable to articulate his views. Miller is strongly in favor of the phasing out, and eventual removal, of the Social Security system, and, in particular, the Unemployment Benefits, which he believes have fostered “an entitlement mentality” that has led to the expansion of the Fed and the slow recovery of the American people.
Miller’s views, while more extreme than most politicians, even on the right, still displays what appears to be the typical debate on the topic. Candidates on both sides seem to have a strong opinion on whether or not the Government should be able to provide benefits to unemployed Americans, but often struggle to explain their stance. On the Left it is pointed out that government benefits help unemployed people with families that still need to eat, and hope that needs to be maintained until a new job can be located. On the Right, politicians like Miller say that government handouts make people reliant on those handouts, and less able to provide for themselves. Neither side, however, can provide solid, empirical evidence to prove themselves correct.
I personally lean Right on this issue, but do not claim to have any reasoning beyond that it seems to me that safety nets prompt people to give up more easily, and plan less diligently.

One thing we can agree on? Baby Hedgehogs are adorable.
